Food Festival: An Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Event

Dates: 10-12 November, at District Six Museum
Cape Town


The Food Politics and Cultures Project invites all academics, artists, intellectual activists and poets interested in food politics and cultures to contact for queries and considerations about participation in our Food Festival.


The festival will include:

 Public Lecture

 Panel Discussions

 Visual Art Exhibition

 Talks and Demos

 A New Play by Mike van Graan


Broader themes for the panel discussions are:

 Food politics, cultures, histories and geographies;

 Foodways, coloniality, racism and migration;

 Food and eating: representing social identities and lifestyle;

 Embodiment, the visceral and pleasure;

 Food struggles, food sovereignty and agrarian transformation; 

 Nature/Society and the ecological crisis.

The festival catering aims to reflect the values of the Food Politics and Cultures Project of wholesome, tasty, conscious and socially and ecologically just food.
